MUSIC STUDY AT CUC
The study of music is a life-enriching process, involving as it does the
mental, emotional, physical and spiritual components of the individual while
bridging age, gender, and culture. Music thus plays a significant role in
every society. Music study is aesthetic in its awareness, involvement, and
appreciation of the art form; music study is disciplinary in its intensity
of focus and practice; music study is developmental in its stimulation of left, right
and cross-brain activity.
A music degree provides a surprising diversity of post-graduate options in
the areas of music, music-related and non-music related (pre-professional)
goals:
-
Music goals following graduation include private studio teaching,
studio musician, orchestra player, church musician, free-lance musician,
elementary/high school teaching, graduate studies in music, eventual college/university
teaching, etc., or a mix of these.
-
Music-related goals following graduation
include graduate studies in music therapy, music business owner/supplier, symphony publicist, music
administrator, etc.
-
Non-music related goals following graduation include
medicine, law, dentistry, etc. Whatever their employment area, music
graduates characteristically pursue their efforts using the discipline
developed during their music study, while combining various aspects of their
music studies
into a full and satisfying life.
Music study at Canadian University College aims to prepare and enrich the student for life by
developing solid grounding in the musical arts through its various
components:
-
historical & contextual knowledge through the study of music
history and literature
-
analytical and practical knowledge
through the study of music theory and musicianship skills
-
applied and experiential knowledge
through performance studies and public performances
-
vision for
mission in developing and using musical talent and skills in service to
God and community
