Academic Requirements: I am from outside North America

If you have completed high school outside of Canada or the US, Canadian University College cannot assess your transcripts without an evaluation from IQAS, the International Qualification Assessment Service of the Government of Alberta, Canada. When you mail your international transcripts to IQAS, they will provide a report to Canadian University College that explains the equivalent level of education you would have received had you studied in Alberta, Canada. The admissions committee will then make a decision on your application on the basis of the IQAS report.

The IQAS report that is required for assessing secondary (high school) transcripts is called an Assessment for Educational Institution.

The IQAS report that is required if you have taken any post-secondary schooling outside of Canada or the US, and wish to receive transfer credit to Canadian University College, is called a Description of Course Work.

The application form and fee schedule for these assessments are provided in the admissions package that Canadian University College mails to international applicants. Alternately, you can obtain more information about IQAS, and download the application forms for this service by visiting the IQAS website at www.learning.gov.ab.ca/iqas/iqas.asp).

Please note that you may not need to apply for an IQAS evaluation if one of the following situations applies to you:

  • You have completed your secondary education at a school accredited through a North American institution. If this situation applies to you, please refer to the Academic Requirements for US Applicants
  • You have taken a standardized North American test such as the GED, SAT or ACT, and meet the requirements for Admission by Examination.
  • You have taken postsecondary courses from a Seventh-day Adventist college or university accredited through the Adventist Accrediting Association. If this situation applies to you, you may qualify for regular admission as a transfer student, by presenting a postsecondary transcript with a minimum of nine credits and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, or equivalent.

Can I transfer credits in?

Please see the Academic Calendar for information regarding transferring of credits.

How do I obtain a Study Permit (visa)?

Any student from outside Canada must apply for a Study Permit through Citizenship and Immigration Canada for their anticipated period of study within Canada. Detailed information can be found on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website: www.cic.gc.ca.

An official acceptance letter is an important document you will need for acquiring this Study Permit. Canadian University College issues this to you after you have fulfilled requirements for both Academic and Financial admission.

International students from outside the US must complete the Study Permit application process at their nearest Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) office (embassy/consulate). However US students are not required to complete the process until entering Canada. Although they can complete the process ahead of time at their nearest CIC office, most US students apply for their Study Permit at the port of entry, if they are entering Canada by air, or at the border, if they are driving.
